| THREE QUESTIONS FOR THE DIRECTOR: BORIS MITIĆ |
|
|
Your previous documentaries were screened and rewarded at many festivals throughout the world. This occurred with your latest movie, Goodbye, How Are You? What kind of universal language is this with which your movies communicate with the worldwide public?
- Angle of impact, freestyling, sympathy for the outcasts, derisionary fatalism, latent subversiveness, humor in desperate situations?
You were a professional journalist for years, and then entered the film business. One could describe you as a self-taught film creator. Do you consider that your advantage? Do you have any advice for young film authors?
- Half of us documentarians don’t have a film degree, which obviously isn’t a disadvantage. Everyone can learn the craft, but few people have something meaningful to say, and among them, even fewer know how to say it. The young should educate themselves more broadly, valorize their personal qualities and affections, film only what they feel they must and do so as long as it takes, and learn from counterexamples.
You have been at Kustendorf for several days now. What are your impressions of the festival?
- Few films, more contacts, exotic location, perfect hospitality, my cup of brandy. Maybe some more ‘classics’ related to the guests, longer and more thematic workshops, and a few excursions for outsiders.
